How to create reminders for confirmation messages?
After signing up for a newsletter, subscribers sometimes forget to click the activation link you send in the confirmation email. That’s where reminders come in handy. These are additional messages sent after a few days to remind the subscriber to complete their signup.
It’s a simple way to avoid losing valuable contacts and effectively build your subscriber base.
How do reminders work?
You can create up to two reminders for each confirmation message. You create reminders manually – they’re not generated automatically.
When reminders are sent:
- When the recipient hasn’t clicked the activation link in the original confirmation.
When reminders are not sent:
- When the recipient has already confirmed their signup.
- When the recipient’s address is on the blocked list.
Time delays – when to send reminders?
For each reminder, you’ll set a delay relative to the previous message:
Time options:
- Daily: from 1 to 7 days.
- Hourly: from 1 to 168 hours.
Each reminder counts time from the previous message in the sequence.
Example:
- Confirmation request message was sent to the subscriber on August 2nd at 12:00 PM.
- First reminder delay was set to 2 days and 7 hours. The subscriber will receive it on August 4th at 7:00 PM.
- Second reminder delay was set to 2 days and 14 hours after the first reminder. The subscriber will receive it on August 7th at 9:00 AM.
Set the first reminder after 24-48 hours. This is the optimal time – the signup is still fresh in the subscriber’s memory, while giving them enough time to react.
How to create a reminder series?
What you should know
- All messages in the series share a common name in the confirmations table.
- Tracking settings are shared across the entire series.
- You can copy subject and sender settings between messages. Copying options:
- From another message to the current one.
- From the current message to others in the series.
How to add a reminder?
- In the side panel, select Settings > Consents > Confirmation messages.
- Choose an option:
- Create new confirmation message – for a new series.
- Edit – for an existing confirmation.
- In the editor, find the dropdown button on the left side. Click it to add a reminder (maximum 2).
- Create the reminder the same way as a regular confirmation message.
- In the Reminder timing section, set the time delay.
- After completing all messages, click Send.
Reports – checking reminder effectiveness
One of the useful metrics for evaluating whether reminders passed the test is the opt-in rate. You’ll find it in the table available in Settings > Consents > Confirmation messages and in the individual confirmation report.
In the report, you can directly analyze how many people signed up without a reminder versus how many signed up after receiving a reminder. If the rate increases after sending reminders, it means the message was effective.
