Website setup

In this section, you can add your website to track customer behavior and send that data to ECDP.

A website is the source of data you can use in your marketing communication. It generates traffic, events, and stores product details. Feeding all this website data to ECDP will allow you to plan and trigger multichannel campaigns, recommend products, and include website events in automated marketing scenarios.

In Settings > Websites, you will configure a website, a tracking script for this website, and a product catalog.

Add a website

  1. Click Add website.
  2. Enter a name for your website. Pick something that makes sense to you, it doesn’t have to match the domain.
  3. Add the website URL.
  4. Optionally, write a description.
  5. Choose the website language. Base this choice on how numeric data, e.g. decimal separators or date formats, is already displayed on your website. Since this setting reflects a locale, not just the lanuage.
  6. Next, configure the product catalog. This step is optional.
    • Select a product catalog you want to connect with this website. If you have not created one yet, you can do it here – just add a catalog name and it will be created once you save the website settings. The catalog will be available in Settings > Product catalogs for further configuration.
    • Next, select Activate self-building product catalog if you want to update your product catalog with tracking data.
    • Additionally, select Overwrite products added through import if you want the tracking script to update products added to the catalog through cyclical imports.
  7. Click Save when you’re done, or Close if you want to cancel.

Add a tracking code to your website

To collect data from your website, you need to add the ECDP web tracking script to your site code.

Where do I find the tracking code for my website?

  1. Go to Settings > Websites.
  2. Add a website.
  3. Find the website in the grid table and click the </> tracking code button.
  4. Copy the code to clipboard or download it as a TXT file.

Each website gets its own unique script. This keeps data from different sites separate and makes your reports much clearer.

The tracking code is ready to be added to your website with one of the following methods:

  • a content management system (CMS) plugin,
  • direct placement in your website’s code,
  • or Google Tag Manger.

Add tracking code using a CMS plugin

  1. Log in to your CMS account.
  2. Select and install the content management plugin.
  3. Run the plugin.
  4. Paste the tracking code in the appropriate field in the plugin – it is usually labeled as Footer or Header & Footer.
  5. Save changes.

Add tracking code directly in the page’s code

  1. Log in to your CMS account.
  2. From the side menu, go to the Appearance > Theme Editor section.
  3. Find the functions.php file in the Theme files list.
  4. Open it and paste the tracking code at the end of the file, before the </footer> tag. This ensures the tracking script works properly
  5. Save changes.

Add tracking code using Google Tag Manager#

This method allows for adding tracking code depending on whether you are going to collect customer data inside or outside the EU. Choose an installation scenario depending on your goals:

Website characteristics#

Each website you add has:

  1. Status that informs you about the current state of the website configuration:
    • Active – the configuration has been completed, and the tracking script is ready to work. If you want to collect product data, activate the self-building product catalog or create a cyclical product feed import.
    • Configuration in progress – configuration on our side is in progress.
    • Upload tracking script – to fully use the data from your website, add the tracking code.
    • Inactive – data and events from the website are no longer tracked and collected. The product catalog related to this website is not deleted. However, if this website was the only one linked to a catalog, the cyclical product feed imports will be stopped.
    • Deleted – the website was deleted, but it can be restored:
      • Select the Show deleted websites option located above the grid table. The deleted websites are hidden by default.
      • Click the Restore action button for the website you want to bring back.
      • The website will be restored with Inactive status.
  2. ID and name to identify the website when creating content, automation scenarios, and when using the API.
  3. Website URL address.
  4. The main language of the site.
  5. Product catalog connected to the website.

How to access a product catalog from the website settings page?

You can browse the product catalog connected to the website, but you cannot edit it. Click the Browse action button for a selected website, and the catalog will open. You can select a currency to browse the product list in.
